Abstract

The soil is the basis of a structure or construction, whether construction or road construction, and becomes a problem if the soil used for a construction of buildings or roads has bad traits. Examples of land that has a bad nature of the land in the village of Troketon, Pedan, Klaten that often suffered damage to road construction. Therefore, land improvement needs to be done by stabilization. One way to improve the soil is to use the added tras material with the percentage of tras mixture of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% which is expected to improve soil physical properties and soil bearing capacity for the better. The research method is in the form of a series of tests, namely soil physical properties, water content, specific gravity, Atterberg limits, and grain gradations for each addition of tras, while mechanical testing includes Standard Proctor and California Bearing Ratio. The result of the original soil physical characteristic test in this research got the value of water content 6,53%, Gs 2,523, LL 74,95%, PL 30,49%, SL 9.45%, PI 44,47 and passing number filtration 200 by 89.57%. The result of soil physical properties test showed that the value of water content, Gs, LL, PL, PI, pass filter No.200 and index group decreased with variation of addition of tras . While in testing the shrinkage limit has increased. After testing of soil physical properties, the classification of mixed tras soil according to the AASHTO system is included in groups A-7-6, whereas according to the USCS system the soil belongs to the CH group. The soil compaction test using Standard Proctor, and obtained the value of the maximum dry content weight increased in the addition of 20% tras with a value of 1.39 gr / cm3. While the optimum water content decreased on the addition of 20% tras with a value of 20.1%. CBR soaked testing experienced the greatest increase with a value of 4% on the addition of 20% tras while the unsoaked value increased the greatest with a value of 15% on the addition of 20% tras. For the original land swelling value 0.937% and decreased after the addition of 20% tras with a value of 0.584%. Keywords: clay, physical properties, stabilization, strenght soil support, tras.
