Abstract
Pneumonia is an infection of the lung caused by bacteria and viruses. Antibiotic are drugs for pneumonia caused by bacteria. The administration of irrational antibiotics can have a negative impact, such as increased side effects and toxicity, as well as bacterial resistance to antibiotics. The study aimed to evaluate the rationale of antibiotic use in patients with pneumonia at the inpatient installation of Klaten Hospital in 2015 based on the antibiotics right drug, right of patients and precise dose compared to the guidance of Indonesian Pediatricians Association in 2009 and the Indonesian Doctor of Lung Association in 2003. This research is a non experimental research with descriptive research design. Data retrieval was done retrospectively based on patient record. The sample of 46 patients consisting of 8 pediatric patients and 38 adult patients with inclusion criteria of patients with pneumonia disease, received antibiotic therapy and no other infections. Antibiotics used in patients with pneumonia at the inpatient installation of Klaten Islamic Hospital are ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ceftriaxone, cefepim, ceftazidim, cefpirom, cefotaxime, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, azithromycin and meropenem. Results of evaluation of antibiotic use in patients diagnosed with pneumonia showed the use of antibiotics in the pediatric patient's 100% right patient, 100% precise drug and 37.5% precise dose. In adult patient 100% right patient, 63.16% precise drug and 13.16% precise dose. Then, from the evaluation found that the rational use of antibiotics amounted to 37.5% in children and 13.16% in adult patients.
