Abstract

One aspect of language that students have to master is speaking, because speaking skills support other skills. The skills of learners to state facts or opinions about current events are the intellectual abilities of a learner. This study aims to describe the ability of students in expressing facts and opinions on learning Indonesian class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Masaran. Describe the ability to express, explain the differences and factors causing the weakness of students in stating the facts and opinions become the purpose of this study. This research type is qualitative research with qualitative descriptive method. Data collection method in this research is documentation method and see-note. Data analysis method used flow and expansion method. The results showed: students' ability to declare the exact facts and opinions sentence of 71.87% With an average rating of 56.87. The students' ability to explain the differences of facts and opinions is divided into three levels of achievement that is very competent, 23%, competent, 43%, competent enough, 34%. There are three factors that influence the weakness of students in stating facts and opinions. First, less students understand about the field of syntax in stating facts and opinions. Second, the lack of practice of students in expressing facts and opinions. Third, the lack of understanding of the students about the description and the characteristics of sentence facts and opinions
