Abstract

This study is entitled “Fairy Godmother Ambition Revealed In Shrek 2 Cartoon Movie: A Psychoanalytic Approach.”. This research paper has purposes to classify the structural element of Shrek 2 Cartoon Movie and to describe Fairy Godmother’s ambition based on Psychoanalytic perspective. The research focuses on one of the characters of the film named Fairy Godmother. In this research, the data are derived from Shrek 2 animation cartoon movie, script of the movie, books, dictionary and websites. The technique of data analysis used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis which is analyzed in detail through psychoanalytic approach. Based on the data analysis, the researcher draw conclusion that Fairy Godmother is an antagonistic character in this film. There are some ambitions reveled clearly in the movie but all of his ambitions failed because of Shrek and his friends. The result of this study shows that the real ambitions of Fairy Godmother are to take over Far Far Away Kingdom and to marry her son, Charming, with the princess of Far Far Away Kingdom, Fiona. She became a liar in Far Far Away Kingdom with her statement “happily ever after”. In conclusion, Fairy Godmother is the bad/antagonist character of the film because she tries to take over the Far Far Away Kingdom with tricky ways.
