Abstract

The purpose of this study is to enhance the problem solving skill and learning outcomes mathematics student of class IX F in SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu throught the application of problem solving method. This study includes classroom action research. In this study, mathematics teacher as act master, students of class IX F in SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu as recipients act, and reseacrhers as an observer. Method of collection data in this research are observation, test, field note, and documentation. Techique of analyzing data as a data redution, data presentation, and data verification. The result showed an increased ability to problem-solving visits of indicators many students are able: 1) understanding the problem before action 11 students (34,4%) after treatment 28 students (87,5%); 2) planning the settlement before the action 7 students (21,9%) after tretment 28 students (87,5%); 3) solving the problem as planned before action 12 student (37,5%) after treatment 26 student (81,25%), and 4) re-checking the settlement result before action 10 students (31,25%) after treatment 25 student (78,125%). There was also an icrease in students’s mathematics learning outcome seen from the achievement of students score ≥ KKM (minimum completeness criteria) of 9 students (28,125%) increased to 29 students (90,625%). Based on the study, it was concluded that the learning method of problem solving in mathematics can improve problem-solving skill and learning outcome mathematics students.
