Abstract

Bayat, Klaten clay is a kind of ubstable soil. This ondition can be seen from the physical form of the soil, if in the dry season the soil becomes cracked due to shrinkage, while in the rainy season the soil becomes soft and the road conditions are damaged, such as cracks and road surface becomes bumpy. Based on the above description above, it was necessary to repair the soil. One of methods of soil provement was by chemical stabilization. This research tries to improve the clay of Bayat, Klaten by means of abilization using tras material. The tras material was chosen because according to Wiqoyah (2007) the mixes of soil and tras can improve the physical soil properties. Based on the above description in this study tras used to stabilize the material with mixed variations 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Methods of research conducted in the form of a series of tests is water content test, specific gravity, Atterberg limit, granule size analysis, Standard Proctor, and CBR test. The result of physical properties of soil obtained by value LL = 80,21%, PL = 36,28%, SL = 14,72 and PI = 43,93%. The result of physical properties of soil test showed that water content, liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit, plasticity index, percentage of pass filter No.200, index group decreased with increasing of tras. The classification of mixed soil according to the AASHTO system of soil with 0%, 2.5%, and 5% mixtures was included in the A-7-5 group while the soil with the 7.5% and 10% mixture were included in groups A-7-6. Under the USCS soil classification system belongs to the CH group. The result of soil compaction test using Standard Proctor weight of maximum dry volume has increased and the optimum water content decreases frequently with increasing of tras mixture. The largest maximum dry volume weight occurred on the 10% tras mixture with a value of 1.327 gr / cm3. The smallest optimum moisture content was obtained by a 10% mixture with a value of 23%. Unsoaked CBR values and soaked soil mixtures tend to increase as the percentage of tras mixture increases. The highest unsoaked CBR value occurred in 10% trashed soil by 25%, and the highest Soaked CBR value occurred on 10% trashed soil by 6%.
