Abstract

The design of the mononitrotoluene (MNT) plant with the raw material of toluene and mixed acid using sulfuric acid as its catalyst will be planned to operate for 330 days / year with 213 employees. The factory with an area of 14,223.29 sqm is planned to be built in 2020 at Cilacap industrial site, Central Java province adjacent to Pertamina UP IV and PT Multi Nitrotama Kimia in Cikampek as raw material provider. The MNT manufacturing process takes place in the liquid phase using a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) reactor under pressure conditions at 1 atm and 50ºC. The reaction takes place in an exothermic, unidirectional, and non adiabatic direction. The need of raw material in MNT manufacture is toluene 2.176,39 kg / hour, HNO3 equal to 2.176,39 kg / hour, H2SO4 equal to 27,70 kg / hour. Utilities include the provision of water obtained from river water. Total make-up water used 994,39 kg / hour, for steam of 3.722,32 kg / hour, 330 kW of electricity as reserves, 216,42 L / h of fuel, compressed air supply of 57.8 m3 / hr. From the economic analysis conducted on this factory with fixed capital Rp. 318.621.055.924 and working capital Rp. 33.825.351.324, showing profit before tax of Rp. 127.623.848.688 per year, after tax deducted 25%, profit reached Rp. 95.717.886.516 per year. Return On Investment (ROI) before tax 40,06% and after tax 30,04%. Pay Out Time (POT) before tax is 2,00 years and after tax 2,50 years. Break Even Point (BEP) of 45,65% and Shut Down Point (SDP) of 25,3%. From the above feasibility analysis data is concluded, the plant is profitable and feasible to be established.
