Abstract

Aluminum sulfate is chemical compound that used in paper manufacturing as bleaching agent and flocculating agent in water treatment. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days/year with production capacity 26,000 tons/year. The main raw material that needed is 20,190.3938 tons/year of kaolin and 43,409.3467 tons/year of sulfuric acid. Aluminum sulfate factory will be established in Cikampek, West Java in 2020. Water needs in this plant is obtained from Cikao and Parungkadali rivers, while the needs of electrical energy obtained from PLN and generator. Aluminum sulfate is produced by reacting aluminum oxide (Al2O3) with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) which is completed by cooling jacket and operates at pressure 1 atm, 900C during 1.5 hours. The result of the reactor flowed into centrifuge to separate solids and liquids phase. The liquid phase is product that brought into crystallizer. Then, the crystallizer output is separated from material which not crystallized by centrifuge. Aluminum sulfate crystal fed into rotary dryer to be purified. The result of economic analysis to aluminum sulfate plant pre-design obtained that total capital investment amount is Rp197,837,673,993 and production cost amount is Rp310,145,851,593. From feasibility analysis obtained the result of return on investment (ROI) before tax is 22.62% and after tax is 16.96%. The payout time (POT) before tax is 3.07 years and after tax is 3.71 years. The break even point (BEP) is 47.22%, the shutdown point (SDP) is 21.55% and the internal rate of return (IRR) is 23.98%. Based on the result of analysis, the plant of Aluminum Sulfate with production capacity 26,000 tons/year is feasible to established.
