Abstract

This research aims at observing the analysis of corrective feedback in speaking classroom at English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Specifically, it is to describe the kinds of corrective feedback given by the lecturer in the speaking classroom, to show the frequency of each type of corrective feedback, and to describe the students’ perception about the corrective feedback given by the lecturer in speaking classroom at English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. In this research the data are derived from event, informant, and document. There are three techniques in collecting the data, namely: observation, interview and documentation. The researcher uses the descriptive qualitative in analyzing the data. The research indicates as follows: First, the type of corrective feedback given by the lecturer in speaking classroom includes explicit correction, recasts, clarification requests, metalinguistic feedback, and elicitation. Second, the frequency of corrective feedback that most appears in the speaking classroom is explicit correction and the less or even never appears in the speaking classroom is repetition. Third, the students’ perception on the corrective feedback given by the lecturer in speaking classroom are: (1) corrective feedback is good to apply in speaking classroom because when the students make an error and the lecturer gives a corrective feedback, the students will know the part of error in their speech, (2) Corrective feedback also can help the students to improve their way of thinking in learnin
