Abstract

KARTA. 2009. This research paper is about the expressive acts used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. The objectives of the research are to find the linguistic forms of expressive acts and to determine the function of expressive acts. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data are the expressive acts used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film in the forms of word, phrase, and sentence. In collecting the data, the writer determines the film, watches the film, finds the utterance containing expressive acts, and writes down the data found. Furthermore, in analyzing the data, the writer identifies the linguistic forms of expressive acts using grammatical theory and classifying the function of expressive acts using pragmatic approach. The result of the data analysis shows that (1) there are nine forms of expressive act used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film, those are adjective, noun, verb, interjection, noun phrase, verb phrase, declarative sentence, exclamatory sentence, and interrogative sentence, (2) there are fifteen functions of expressive act showed in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film, they are anger, annoyance, commiserate, confuse, disappointed feeling, uneasy, pain, pleasure, proud, regret, scare, sorry, surprise, thanks, and unbelievable.
