Abstract

All lectures conducted in every classroom within FKI UMS always use electronic devices, such as fans, lamps, Air Conditioners, and LCD Projectors. Based on observations, many of those electronic devices were used inefficiently where most of the time they were still turned on despite being not in use anymore. This fact motivated the authors to create a control systems for those electronic devices that can be monitored remotely via smartphone or computer with web page as user interface. The course of this research followed the stages defined in the prototyping method. The electronic devices to be controlled were limited to LCD Projectors only. Arduino Mega 2560 was used as the controller device and UMS Wifi network was used as the communications infrastructure. IR Receiver was used to record IR Code from remote control of LCD Projector, while IR Transmitter was used to send IR Code to LCD Projector. To connect to the Wifi UMS network, the Ethernet Shield was first connected to an Access Point using the Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cross cable. The Access Point was set in wireless client mode so that the Arduino could capture the signal transmitted from Wifi UMS Router. Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) was used as a light sensor to detect the state of the LCD Projector. From the test results, the longest distance that the IR Transmitter could reach in sending IR Code was 8 meters. All control buttons on the web page can work in accordance with its functions and the level of compatibility reached 100% of 19 times experiments. The built system can work according to the desired function with 100% success rate when accessed with smartphone or laptop after 19 times experiment.
