Abstract

Background: Breastmilk is the best food for the babies (newborn) and it is only healthy food baby needs in the first few months of life. Exclusive breastfeeding is needed to fulfill the babie’s nutritions and support its growth. Although it is well known that the benefits and impacts of exclusive breastfeeding, there are many women who have low tendency to exclusively breastfeed their babies. The lack of giving exclusive breastfeeding by mother who breastfeed can be caused by many factors such as mothers knowledge and attitudes, family support, community and local health workers or economic factors. Therefore, health education about giving exclusive breastfeeding is needed. Method: The research was use pre-experimental design method with approach of one group pretest and posttest to 35 women with the ages between 20-40 years old. The responden’s knowledges was measured using structured questionare and validated questionare of 36 items of questions for knowledge. Result: At the pretest value indicated that only 22,8% who have good knowledge, 31,5% who have medium knowledge, and 45,7% who have low knowledge. After giving health education, posttest result showed improvement in knowledge indicator, it was 80,0% who have a good knowledge, and 20,0% who have medium knowledge. Conclusion: from the result of this study is known that health education is effective against the knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding of respondents Keywords: health education, exclusive breastfeeding.
