Abstract

This study aims to describe 1) The difficulty of understanding the language of mathematics, (2) Difficulty in transferring knowledge (3) Difficulties in calculating the students experienced in solving arithmetic and functional composition and analyzing the factors causing it. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Research respondents are students of class X Multimedia C. Technique of collecting data by observation method, documentation, and interview. Based on the observations, interviews and documentation, the conclusion (1) The difficulties experienced by students in understanding the language of mathematics is that students have difficulty to change the language of the problem into a mathematical language. Besides, the students do not write down what is known and asked in accordance with the request questions. (2) Difficulties of students in transferring knowledge is the difficulty in understanding the concept of arithmetic operations and the composition of functions and the basic concepts of integers. Students have not mastered the material of the composition of the function so that it is less in understanding the given problem and less skilled in working on the questions given properly. Another difficulty is the procedure that students do deviate at a certain step. (3) Difficulties experienced by students in the calculation of the students are less precise in the operation of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in operation.
