Abstract

Understanding and attitude toward an acceptable use of antibiotic have important role in a proper healing process.The purpose of this research is to know people’s understanding of antibiotics use in Klaten Regency. This research is an observational research that used questionnaire. The sample used wasnon-medic visitors in some drugstores in Klaten Regency, in range of 17-65 years old, willing to be the respondent, and capable in both writing and reading. Data from the questionnaire was descriptively analyzed and presented in table containing quantity and percentage. The result of the research shows that 47% out of 127 respondents have ever bought antibiotic without prescription. In average, people have low understanding towards: general antibiotic knowledge (34%), how to get antibiotic (35%), how to use antibiotic (43%), antibiotic's contraindication (39%), and how to throw away expired antibiotic (39%).Good understanding in what to do towards antibiotic’s side effect (91%).There are 83(65%) out of 127 respondents in Klaten Regency, have low understanding toward antibiotic, 36 respondents (28%) have middle-level understanding toward antibiotic, and 8 respondents (6%) have good understanding toward antibiotic.
