Abstract

Sorbitol is widely used in human life. Sorbitol can be selected as an alternative glucose for diabetics, as raw material for the manufacture of vitamin C, in the cosmetics industry such as creams, ointments, emulsions, lotions, gels and especially on toothpaste. The factory is expected to reduce imports of sorbitol Indonesia and sufficiency in the country. The sorbitol plant, with glucose and excess hydrogen planned to be established in the industrial area of Kendal, Central of Java with a capacity of 55.000 tons/year and operated for 330 days. The manufacture of sorbitol using catalytic hydrogenation process in a fixed bed reactor. Reaction of sorbitol in gas-liquid phase, at a temperature range 130-180oC and pressure of 70 atm. The reaction is exothermic. For sorbitol plant capacity of 55.000 tons/year, needs glucose for 9.910,9663 kg/h and hydrogen needs as much as 56,0743 kg/h. Unit utility provider of process water obtained from rivers Blorong. Steam needs of 5.465,9130 kg/h produced from a boiler. Utility requirements makeup water for cooling, boiler feed and domestic water for 4.459,9955 kg/h. The demand for electricity is obtained from (PLN) and generator sets of 500 kWh with diesel fuel that is used as much as 614,7696 liters/day. Activated carbon needs as much 996,7041 kg/h. Total land area is used for plant construction sorbitol of 65.600 m2 and employs 135 people. The planned models of business entities is a Limited Liability Company (PT). The fixed capital sorbitol plant needed Rp 438.361.403.058,16, working capital Rp 215.177.024.119,87. Economic analysis of sorbitol plant showed a profit before tax of Rp 196.658.624.556,93 per year and after the cuts for taxes paid 25% profit to Rp 147.493.968.417,70 per year. Percent Return On Investment (ROI) before tax 44,86% and after tax 33,65%. Pay Out Time (POT) before tax 1,82 years and after tax 2,29 years. Break Even Point (BEP) amounted to 43,19%. Shut Down Point (SDP) amounted to 27,36%. Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) accounted for 28%. From the consideration of economic and market analysis aspects of an increasingly large and spacious it can be concluded that the plant sorbitol interesting and worthy established.
