Abstract

Activity of drama scriptwriting is an activity of pouring experience, imagination, imaginary about environment or feeling by using existing senses. In fact, many students faced difficulties in writing a drama script. Purpose of the research is to improve skill of drama scriptwriting of students of class VIII E of SMP Negeri 2 Pracimantoro, Wonogiri Regency, by using Opera Van Java video. The research is a classroom action research with 2-cycles procedure consisting of planning, action implementation, observation and reflection. Data was collected by using observation, interview and documentation. Results of the research indicated that the use of Opera Van Java video for improvement of drama scriptwriting learning can improve activeness and drama scriptwriting skill of the students from one cycle to another. In initial condition, average grade of students’ activeness was 50%, and it increased to 63% in cycle I, and its improved 21% greater to 84% in cycle II. While, skill of drama scriptwriting of students (referring to learning completeness of students) showed improvement from initial condition of 53% to 67% in cycle I and it improved further to 87% (20% greater) in cycle II.
