Abstract

This research paper is aimed at describing teaching reading by using report text to the first year students of SMK N 3 KARTASURA. The reason of conducting this research in this school is because the technique applied in the school does not support the students’ reading improvement. In this research, the writer conducted class action research method. It aims at collecting information of a phenomenon which occurred. The methods of collecting data are observation, document, and interview. There are two types of data, primary and secondary. The primary data are taken from the first source of data, direct observation, while the secondary data are taken from the second data source. The result of the research paper are; 1)keyword method, words map, root analysis, and restructuring reading materials, but the teacher in SMP N 3 KARTASURA implemented the technique using report text. 2) The common problems are the teaching technique, the teaching materials, and students’ mentality. 3) Report text implemented by the teacher was appropriate for third year students of SMP N 3 KARATASURA
