Abstract

The phenomenon of the use of the veil today has shifted its meaning, so that the hijab is not only to cover the nakedness accordance Islamic law, but it has now become a fashion. Solo Hijabers community seeks to initiate and develop new trends for the veiled Muslim woman in Surakarta. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the shifting identity Solo Hijabers members against the use or wearing of headscarves from concept I be Me. This research includes qualitative research. The subjects were members of Solo Hijabers (SH). Techniques determination of informants in a qualitative study using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques using the technique of in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. The results showed that: 1) The way members of Solo Hijabers communicate symbols that exist in the use of the veil in the concept I can be seen from the reasons for the use of the veil before a member of Solo Hijabers namely: Hijab serves as the fulfillment of obligations as a Muslim woman, hijab serves as honorary patron of women, the veil as a means or mechanism of self-control, and the headscarf as a symbolic resistance to fashion trends; 2) How to members of Solo Hijabers communicate symbols that exist in the use of the veil in the concept of Me can be seen from the reasons for the use of the veil after a member of Solo Hijabers namely: the hijab as a complement Islamic headscarf, the hijab as protection, hijab as a means to achieve life goals in the world and the hereafter, and hijab as an identity; 3) The change in identity of the "I" to "Me" before and after admission to the Solo Hijaber: a) Judging from the liability aspect, is purely to fulfill the obligations and religious orders and after becoming a member of Solo Hijabers is as complement the Islamic headscarf; b) Judging from the protective aspect is the honorary patron of Muslim women and as a member of Solo Hijabers is veiled Muslim in values and norms will be protected by society; c) Judging from the aspect of purpose is as a mechanism of self-control and after becoming a member of Solo Hijabers is the hijab has become a way of life; d) Judging from the aspect of purpose is as a matter of differentiating the non-Muslim woman and after becoming a member of Solo Hijabers is a Muslim identity that is modern and fashionable.
