Abstract

This study aims at describing the implementation of teaching vocabulary through Direct Method and the teaching result. In achieving the objectives, the researcher applies an action research involving four procedures or phases namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was held in SDN 1 Tulas Karangdowo Klaten. The researcher takes 28 students of the sixth year as the subject of the study. There are three cycles in this research in which each cycle is conducted in one meeting. The data are the narratives of teaching vocabulary using Direct Method. And the data are taken from the event, documents, and information. The result of the research shows that: (1) there are 25 (89,29%) students who increased their English vocabulary achievement; (2) there are 2 (7,14%) students who decreased their English vocabulary achievement and (3) there is 1 (3,57%) student who has static achievement. Overall, the researcher concludes that teaching English through Direct Method is appropriate and quite effective for the sixth year students of SDN 1 Tulas Karangdowo Klaten. They do not feel bored easily and more relaxed in the classroom, because the teacher used colorful pictures and real thing as the media.
