Abstract

Introduction : The government’s nutrition programs address public health problems, one of them is focusing on anemia in adolescents. Specifically for females, who have tenfold risks of anemia to boys. The prevalence of anemia in State Vocational High School 1 of Sukoharjo in 2014 was still relatively high, which was 39%. Micronutrients which play role in the formation of hemoglobin are iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin A. Objective : The purpose of the research was to determine the correlation between micronutrient intakes (iron, vitamin B12, and vitamin A) and anemia among female students of State Vocational High School 1 of Sukoharjo. Research Methodes : The research used cross-sectional design. The total subjects were 69 female students, who were selected through systematic proportional random sampling of all female students in class XI who had qualification of inclution and exlution criterias. Nutrient intake data were obtained using Semi Quantitave-Food Frequency Questionnaires and hemoglobin level data measured using HemoCue and performed by health professionals. Data were analyzed with Pearson Product Moment and Rank Spearman Correlation test. Result : A total of 40,6% subjects suffered of anemia. Most of them had levels of vitamin A and vitamin B12 intakes above Recommended Dietary Allowance for Indonesians (AKG), which were 66,7% and 68,15%, respectively. A total of 66,7% subjects had iron intake below Recommended Dietary Allowance for Indonesians (AKG). The result of correlation test between iron intake and anemia were (ρ=0,01; r=0,306), vitamin B12 intake and anemia were (ρ=0,000; r=0,456), and vitamin A intake and anemia were (ρ=0,457). Conclusion : There was correlation between iron intake and anemia. There was correlation between vitamin B12 intake and anemia. There was no correlation between vitamin A intake and anemia.
