Abstract

Drug interactions considered clinically significant if increase the toxicity and decrease effectiveness. Pediatric patients are the group of patients who are susceptible to the incidence of drug interactions, cause of incomplete organs. This study to determine the percentage of potential drug interactions in pediatric patients prescription. This study is non experiment study was carried out retrospectively by taken prescription in pediatric patients in 3 Pharmacies in Surakarta from July - December 2014. The data includes the prescribing doctor, patient age, drug name list and rules of use. Samples were obtained by purposive sampling technique in 3 pharmacies in Surakarta and analyzed using www.drugs.com database to determine severity potential drug interaction. Mechanism of drug interactions were found in Stockley's Drug Interaction Eight Edition, Drug Interaction Facts handbook and journal. Data was analyzed in percentage classification. Based on 140 samples in pediatric patients prescription in 3 pharmaciesin Surakarta from July - December 2014 were found 73 samples (52, 14%) with 169 events of potential drug interactions. The most potential drug interaction is CTM – Triprolidin such as 25 events. Based on the severity, moderate interactions were 134 events (79,29%), minor interaction 35 events (25%). Based on interaction mechanisms was found pharmacodynamic interactions were 123 events (72.78%) and pharmacokinetic interactions 23 events (13,61%).
