Abstract

This research aims at improving the student’s English vocabulary using Montessori Method. The specific aims of this research are to describe the implementation of Montessori Method at ABA Kindengarten Tulas Karangdowo Klaten, and the result of teaching vocabulary using Montessori Method. This research is a classroom action research, which is taken as a result of reflection on phenomena done by the writer, and it arises from some specific problems or issues. In this research, the writer faces some problems, such as the students have low motivation in joining teaching and learning process, students face difficulty to memorize the meaning and they have limited vocabulary. In edition they are bored with the teacher’s traditional technique. Here, the writer chooses Montessori Method as the media to solve those problems. The writer employs classroom action research. To overcome this problem, the writer conducts the research in three cycles. Each cycle is conducted in one meeting. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The data are taken from the event, document, and observing, informant, test, and interview. The result of the study shows that teaching vocabulary using Montessori Method can increase the students' ability in mastering vocabulary. The result of the test shows that the number of students who increase their vocabulary achievement is 12 students or 75% and 1 students or 6, 25% who has static achievement, and 3 students or 18, 75% who decrease their vocabulary achievement. The writer finds that the mean score of the students before the action is 68, 75 and the mean score after the action is 81, 25. It means that the implementation of teaching vocabulary using Montessori Method is appropriate and useful to increase the student’s vocabulary mastery.
