Abstract

This research aims at increasing vocabulary mastery of the student using cross word puzzle in Inclusion Program in SDN Kaloran Wonogiri. The specific aims of this study are to describe (1) process, (2) the result and (3) the teacher and the students’ response to the teaching Vocabulary using crossword puzzle in inclusion program in SD Negeri Kaloran Wonogiri. This research is an action research which consists of four cycles, each cycle consists of four elements, namely: planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. To collect the data, the writer used observation, interview, and test. The techniques of data, analysis in this research uses inductive-qualitative data analysis, quantitative data analysis and comparison. The writer describes the process o teaching vocabulary using cross word puzzle, counts the students’ scores of the vocabulary test and compares the students’ scores of the test that is given before and after the treatment. The result of the study showes that (1) crossword puzzle is very effective to teach vocabulary to the slow learners in inclusion program because crossword puzzle can help the students to learn and memorize the words easily. Besides, crossword puzzle can help the students to write the words correctly. (2) The result of the test showed that the mean of the students vocabulary mastery after the writer conducted the action was 86,1 and the mean before the writer conducted the action was 64,4. the students’ vocabulary level also increases from fair level into very good level. (3) From the result of interview with 10 respondents, they are the fourth grade students of SDN Kaloran, it can be concluded that 9 students (90%) feel happy and enjoy in leaning vocabulary using crossword puzzle and 1 students (10%) who actually feels happy but sometimes she feels unhappy especially when she found difficulties in answering the puzzle. Teaching vocabulary using crossword puzzle can also minimize the students’ boredom and make them more active than teaching using conventional methods. It means that teaching vocabulary using crossword puzzle is effective to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery especially in inclusion program.
