Abstract

In this research, the writer describes the implementation of speaking teaching-learning process, problems faced by the teacher in teaching speaking problems faced by the students in learning speaking, and problems solving used by the teacher to overcome the problems faced by the students in learning speaking. This research uses descriptive qualitative study that uses method of observation, interview, and documentation. The subject of this research is the second year students of SMP N 3 Kartasura. The writer takes VIII B students as her subject on her study. The results the research show that : a) the goal of the teaching English in SMP N 3 Kartasura are to develop the student’s courage in speaking English, to make the students understood at English as a means of communication, b) the methods of teaching English applied by the teacher are GTM, CLT, and CLL, c) the problems faced by the teacher in teaching speaking are : the classroom management, limited time, different capability of the students, and the educational background of the student’s parent, d) the problems faced by the students in learning English are limited vocabulary, difficult to pronounce word, grammar, the performance, and nervousness, e) the problem solving used by teacher are: the teacher gives advices and motivation about the importance of their activity in speaking class, the teacher gives revision to the students who get bad score the teacher suggests that every meeting the students must bring a dictionary, and the students can consult to the teacher out of formal time.
