Abstract

This research deals with women is need for independence in all aspects of life reflected in major character of Danielle Steel’s novel; Journey. The aim of this research is to analyze the novel based on feminist approach. The researcher employs the descriptive qualitative as a type of the research. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the novel itself, Journey written by Danielle Steel and the secondary data source is information related to the primary data source, website, and book about feminist approach. The method of collecting data is library research, released document to be observed. The steps of analyzing data of this research are analyzing the structural elements of the work and analyzing the feminist perspectives of the work. The method of analyzing data is descriptive technique. Based on the data that have been collected and analyzed, the writer concludes that Journey reflects the social reality in United States’ society in late twentieth century. Danielle Steel describes a woman who tries to get independence for her life by showing her views and attitudes toward society, economy, politic, education, culture, and women condition at that moment.
