Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the linguistic forms, the meaning and function of register used in card game. The games here are: domino card game (gaple games) and bridge card game (poker games). The research is descriptive qualitative. The data are of the register used in card game in the form words and compound word. To collect the data, the writer uses observation and documentation method. The data are analyzed based on their linguistic forms and their meaning. In analyzing the meaning of the register, the writer employs the theory proposed by Halliday and Biber Douglas. The results of the study show that; 1) The linguistic forms of the register are divided into two, they are: words and compound word. The word consists of three categories; noun, verb and adjective. The compound word is only found in one data. 2) The meaning of card game registers are divided into three categories, they are; (a) based on the fields: when a player loses, when a player wants other players to play more quickly, when a player feel confused, when a player check his cards, when a player feel happy, and when a player feel sad; (b) based on the mode the register is used in the form of speech; and (c) based on the tenor, the register is used among all players.
