Abstract

The study aims at describing the students’ ability in writing procedure text at SMP N 1 Tulung, describing the difficulties faced by the teacher, and describing the difficulties faced by the students. The study is descriptive qualitative. The object of the study is students’ ability in writing procedure text at third year of junior high school (SMP) N I Tulung. The data of this study are the result of the test and observation. The data are taken from events, observation, and document. The data are collected by having observation, document, and interview. The data are analyzed by using descriptive qualitative approach. The result of the research shows that: 1) the student’s ability in writing procedure text at SMP N 1 Tulung is good. It is proved by the student score, the highest score is 83, the lowest score is 56 and the mean score is 65.38; 2) the problems faced by the teacher in teaching writing, namely class management, limited time, different capability of the student, and unstable motivation of the student; 3) the problems faced by the students in teaching writing are that the students have difficulties in expressing their idea to perform the story, the students have difficulty to combine the word to be sentence and to use the correct grammar and vocabularies.
