Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the linguistic forms of metaphorical expressions in the Kahlil Gibran’s poems and to describe the types of metaphorical expression based on Human Perceptual System used in Kahlil Gibran Poems. The researcher uses the documentation and observation method to get the data. The data are metaphor expressions used in Kahlil Gibran’s poems. The source of the data is the collections of Kahlil Gibran’s poems published in official website of Kahlil Gibrans. To answer those problems, this research employs qualitative research method and analyzes the linguistic form of metaphoric expressions by using the theory of linguistic form and also using the types metaphorical expressions based on human perceptual system based on Michael C. Halley’s theory. The result of the research paper shows that first; there are two forms of metaphorical expressions in Kahlil Gibrans poems, namely, phrase and sentence. The phrases are noun phrase, verb phrase, adjective phrase and gerund phrase. Meanwhile the sentence is declarative sentence. Second is the type of metaphorical expressions that are used in Kahlil Gibran’s poems based on Human Perceptual System, abstract concept, cosmos, energy, terrestrial, thing, man/human, live/living.
