Abstract

This study is aimed at judging whether the materials in exercise book entitled “Kartika Pratama” used for the fifth year students are compatible with the curriculum or not. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The object of the study is English materials in KARTIKA’s exercise book used at the fifth year. To collect the data, the writer uses informant and document. After collecting and analyzing data, the writer describes the result of the study. The result of the study shows that the quality of English materials in KARTIKA’s exercise book is bad because the score of schema of quality qualification is 22,22%. Among the 4 Sub-competencies in the School Levelbased Curriculum, there are only 2 sub-competencies that are presented in exercise book. Two sub-competencies that are not presented in exercise book are “Mathematics” and “Calendar”. Based on the research finding, it can be concluded that KARTIKA’s exercise book cannot be used in teaching-learning process because the quality is bad. It is needed to renew and revise before publishing. So, the recommendations of this study are the English teachers have to be careful in selecting supplementary book for teaching.
