Abstract
This research is aimed at describing the dimension and the meaning of military register used in war movies. The movies here are; Black Hawk Down, full Metal Jacket, and Three Kings. The type of the study is qualitative research. The data are in the form of words derived from movie script. The data are taken by observation and documentation. The study shows that; (1) Dimensions of military register in war movie are divided into three; a. Field which is subdivided into purpose and setting. The purpose are; greeting, order, status, place, weapon, transportation and navigation, whereas the setting are; in base, base camp, and in the battle field. b. Mode, the military register mode is in form of speech. c. Tenor, there are three kinds of tenor here; from soldier to soldier, from high level soldier to low level soldier, and from low level soldier to high level soldier. (2) In relation to meaning of military register used in war movie, there are two kinds of meaning; a. the meaning of military register is similar to the grammatical, textual, and lexical meaning. b. The meaning of military register is different from grammatical, textual, and lexical meaning. The differences lay on their grammatical, grammatical and lexical, grammatical and textual, lexical and textual, or grammatical, lexical and textual meaning.
