Abstract

The general objective of this research is to improve students’ pronunciation. While, the specific objectives of this research are describing three things: the implementation of teaching pronunciation using Situational Language Teaching, the improvement of the students understanding about the differences between spelling and pronunciation teaching, and the students’ result. In achieving the objectives of the research, the reseacher uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). Each cycles of the action consists four steps: planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The research is held in TK Bhayangkari Purwodadi. The subject of this study is (Class B) students of TK Bhayangkari Purwodadi that consist of 30 students. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses both qualitative and quantitative analysis which taken from observation, documentation, test and interview. There are two cycles in this action research in which each cycle is conducted in three meetings. After analyzing the data, the writer describes the result of the research in which the mean score of pre-test is 5,4, in post test 1 is 7,3, and in post 2 is 8,4. The result both of pre-test and post-test indicate that the students have a significant improvement in pronunciation. The students also show a positive response. They look enthusiastic, energetic, braver, and more confident to speak. Besides, they become active and brave to produce the correct pronunciation. Moreover, both the result of the students’ responses and the students’ test before and after the treatments indicate that the students have improvement in achieving the English pronunciation. Moreover, the students were mastered to produce the correct pronunciation and avoid missed understanding about the differences between spelling and pronunciation. Thus, it can be said that the teaching pronunciation by using Situational Language Teaching (SLT) for the young learners in TK Bhayangkari Purwodadi is successful.
