Abstract

This research is a qualitative research. The data is Britney Spears Album which are taken from document analysis. The object of the study is metaphorical expressions in Britney Spears songs lyrics in album “My Prerogative”. The result of study shows that there are 11 categories of metaphor and 3 addition of metaphor on human perceptual system based on George Orwell. There are 4 metaphjorical expressions from the first song “My Prerogative”. It contains 1 implicit metaphor, 1 experiential metaphor, 1 paralogical metaphor and 2 dead metaphors. There are 3 metaphorical expressions from the second song “everytime”. It contains 2 submerged metaphors, 2 active metaphors, and 1 complex metaphor. There are 4 metaphorical expressions from the third song “Baby One More Time”. It contains 1 complex metaphor, 2 dead metaphors, 1 active metaphor and 1 synechdochic metaphor. There are 4 metaphorical expressions from the fourth song “You Drive Me Crazy”. It contains 1 paralogic metaphor, 1 complex metaphor, 1 root metaphor and 1 active metaphor. There are 5 metaphorical expressions from the fifth song “Toxic”. It contains 2 dead metaphors, 1 sinecdocdic metaphor, 1 unstead metaphor, 1 active metaphor and 1 complex metaphor. There are 3 metaphorical expressions from the sixth song “Oops I Did It Again”. It contains 1 compound metaphor, 3 mixed metaphors and 1 submerged metaphor.
