Abstract

This study aims at describing the process of increasing vocabulary mastery by using short story at SDN Banaran I and the result of it. Classroom action research (CAR) was done in SDN Banaran I Sambungmacan Sragen. The writer takes the students of the fifth grade of elementary school students at SDN Banaran I Sambungmacan Sragen as the subject of the study. To collect the data, the writer conductes observation, interview and test. Observation is a dialogue done by the writer to get information from the event. Interview is conducted by asking the students and the teacher about English teaching learning process. Test is the treatment given to the students in the form of pre-test and post test. After collecting the data and analyzing them by using classroom action research, the writer describes the result of the research. She finds that there are three kinds of the result in the research: (1) there are 21 students (65,63%) who increase their vocabulary achievement (2) there are 6 students (18,75%) who decrease their vocabulary achievement (3) there are 5 students (15,62% who are static or do not develop their vocabulary achievement. The conclusion is increasing vocabulary mastery by us ing short story at SDN I Banaran Sambungmacan Sragen yields good and effective result. There are some improvement that can be found in vocabulary class, namely (1) the quality of teaching learning process in the class improves (2) the students can remember the meaning of the words easily (3) the students motivation to learn is improved (4) the students are active in the teaching learning process (5) the students can pronounce the words correctly.
