Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the type of headline advertisement of mobile phones and to find the implicature of the headlines advertisement. The object of the research is the headlines advertisement of mobile phone. In collecting the data the researcher uses the documentation method, the source of the data are the headlines of mobile phone advertisement from the newspaper and pamphlets in Indonesia period 2007-2008 which enclosed English advertisement. In finding the objectives the researcher refers to the Bovve and Aren’s theory. To describe the implicature the researcher refers to the theory of speech context by Nunan. The result of the research paper is, there are five types of headlines used in mobile phones advertisement (Benefit headlines, Provocative headlines, News headlines, Question headlines and Command headlines) the most general headline used in mobile phone advertisement is news or information headline. The implicature in mobile phones advertisement inferred by showing the headlines is to give the product more interesting and to persuade the readers to buy the products or the mobile phone.
