Abstract

The development of the teen soap drama is growing just like mushrooms after rain. Many parties are worries with scenes and dialogue that reflects the expression of violence and sex that became an important part of these teen soap. Various scenes hitting, pushing, kissing, teasing the opposite sex, to display all characters with minimal clothing and openly regarded as a mode that shows the latest teen lifestyle. Impressions such as giving inspiration to the youth about the things that can be role models for them. This study may indicate that at least in the teenage soap opera Indonesia, scenes of violence and sexuality is still emerging and as no longer considered a violation of religious and social norms adopted by Indonesian society. Therefore, the required attention from various parties such as governments, industry, media, NGOs, parents, education and youth in particular. The issues raised in this research is to know the frequency of appearance of scenes of violence and sexuality, to know the description of violence and sex and to find out whether there is any significant difference between males and females in regard to the pattern / type of scenes of violence and sexuality. To answer the question in this study, researchers used quantitative content analysis of nine teenage soap opera titles. Various soap opera titles are used as samples because they have some criteria in accordance with this research. Purposive sample used in this study by selecting a sample which is considered to have adequate representation as the unit of analysis. Here is the title of soap operas that aired on SCTV during 2006-2007, which became the subjects in this study : Inikah Rasanya Taruhan, Pacar Gue Ketinggalan Kereta, Anak Jendral & Pengawalnya, Buat Gue Jatuh Cinta, Ratu Cinta Kilat, Cinta Garam & Merica, Cinderella Sendal Jepit, Cewek Manis Di Dalam Kelas, Jatuh Cinta Berjuta Rasanya. In this study the unit of analysis is soap operas per title. Koding of unit uses a series of round or scene that is defined as a union in a similar incident. Categorization of use includes aspects of quantitative and qualitative aspects. Quantitative aspects include the amount of soap opera titles, the number of episodes, number of hours and number of themes while the qualitative aspects are the theme description, general description of violence and sex scenes that stand out, as well as other matters such as setting the dominant story, the positive scene that looks and others. Reliability test of this study using the formula from Ole R Hostly and validity test is conducted by face. Descriptive statistics used to calculate the frequency of occurrence of scenes of violence and sexuality. Besides using descriptive statistics, this study also used the Chi Square test to examine the differences between the sexes in doing a scene of violence and sexuality. The results obtained that there are scenes of violence in the form of occurrence of physical violence (24.7%), psychological (59%) and others (16.4%). For a scene of sexuality, it did not find the occurance sexual harrasment and sexual relations. The sexuality that is portrayed in this soap opera is in type of a kiss scene (14.3%) and a scene of exploitation of sexuality (85.8%). Description xi of scenes of violence often appear in scenes of beating, kicking, hanging his friend, his friend deceived resulting losses, and others. The scene that leads to a lot of sexuality is raised by way of an actor dressed women are minimal and highlight body. By Chi Square analysis, this research fail to reject Ho, which means there is no difference between men and women in performing a scene of violence and sexuality.
