Abstract

This research is aimed to know whether or not students have adequate speaking skill in learning English, to know the students participation during English teaching learning process using quiz team technique to improve students speaking skill and to describe the achievement of the students speaking skill in their test result. The result of this study hopefully will give contribution in learning English. In this research, quiz team technique is used to improve students speaking skill in learning English. This research was carried out at SMP Al Islam Kartasura especially in class B that consists of 35 students. In collecting the required data, the writer did observation, gave test, and used interview. There were five cycles in this action research. To know the score of speaking skill, the writer used pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 56.57, and the mean score of post test is 71.05. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the result of quiz team technique in teaching speaking could improve the students’ achievement. The students’ ability was getting better in each cycle. It indicated that the teaching learning process was successful. Therefore, it is better for the students to study English carefully through practice and experience, and to be active and creative in learning English. While the English teachers may teach the students using quiz team technique, process considerable knowledge to manage an interesting classroom, and prepare the lessons they are going to teach as well as possible.
