Abstract

This research paper aims at knowing: (1) the kind of Indonesian-English code mixing forms and meaning occur in GAUL magazine published in edition IX on 5th-11th March, 2007; and (2) the form of Indonesian-English code mixing which are frequently used in GAUL magazine published in edition IX on 5th-11th March, 2007; (3) the factor influencing the use of Indonesian-English code mixing in GAUL magazine published in edition IX on 5th-11th March, 2007. In this research the writer employs a descriptive qualitative method. The data of if this research are derived from GAUL magazine published in edition IX on 5th-11th March, 2007. They are 100 data found in the GAUL magazine. After collecting data, the research classifies them based on the kind of forms and the meaning of code mixing. The result of the research show that 1) there are six kinds of form and meaning. They are insertion of word, insertion of idiom, insertion of phrase, insertion of hybrid, insertion of word reduplication, and insertion of idiom; 2) There are six forms of code mixing, there are 35 data or 0,35% are simple words, 3 data or 0,03% are compound words, 23 data or 0,23% are phrases,15 data or 0,15% are hybrid, 3 word reduplication or 0,03%, 15 data or 0,15% are idioms, 6 data or 0,06% are clauses; and 3) there are three factors influencing the use of code mixing they are personal emotion factor, high educational level factor, andbeing more interesting factor.
