Abstract

This study aims at describing the process of teaching reading using the information transfer exercise at SMP N Andong, the result and the advantages and the weakness of it. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done in SMP N 1 Andong. The writer took the students of class A of SMP N 1 Andong. The writer conducted an action to the students in the form of pre-test and post-test. After collecting the data and analyzing them, the writer described the result of the research. She found that there were the result in the research; (1) the high level there was an increase 15% in understanding the text and 22,5% in presenting the text, (2) the average level there was an increase 7,5% in understanding the text and 12% in presenting the text, (3) the low level there was decrease 22,5% in understanding the text and 23% in presenting the text. The conclusion is teaching reading using information transfer exercise at SMPN1 Andong is good and effective result. There are some strength that can be found in reading class, (1) the students have high interest in following teaching learning process, (2) the students are motivated to be active in the class, (3) it is easy to understand, memorize, remember, and it can avoid misunderstanding because the students read the text carefully and transferred it into diagram form. There also some weakness of it, the teacher should choose the topic that have relate with the student’s world, create the technique and give describing the material in the first of class. Besides, the information transferred into diagram form makes it easier for the students to get the meaning on the text and makes them easier to convey the content of the text clearly and accurately.
