Abstract
This study aims at designing instructional materials to teach English in kindergarten at Pembina Kroyo, Karangmalang, Sragen. The developmental research was done to design this material. The researcher takes the students of kindergarten school as the subject of the study, who get English first in kindergarten school. To collect the data, the writer uses observation and interview. Observation is an activity in a certain situation to get the data. Interview is a dialogue done by the writer to get information from the interviewee. It is conducted by asking the students and the teacher about English teaching-learning process using the material has been designed. After the materials are done, the problem found is the set of instructional materials designed by the writer is appropriate to teach English to kindergarten students. To answer that problem the writer conducted to try out to kindergarten students. After collecting the data and analyzing them the researcher finds that teaching English using instructional design material based on the syllabus makes the teacher and the students understand well about it. The students feel happy because they can play and learn the English lesson in one time. The conclusion is designing instructional material to teach English in kindergarten of Pembina Kroyo Karangmalang Sragen needs to follow the procedures, such as; (1) Identifying the students goal, selecting topics and listing general objectives, (2) Identifying the students characteristic, (3) Specifying the learning objectives, (4) Listing the subject contents, (5) Selecting teaching and learning activities, (6) Evaluating the material using questionnaire and interview, (7) Revising the material, and (8) Trying out.
