Abstract

This research paper is about learning strategies used by the students of SMPN 2 Keling to develop writing skill. The objectives of the study are to describe learning strategies used by the student of SMPN 2 Keling in developing writing skill and to know the students result in English writing. The writer applies case study as the type of the reseach. She uses interview, observation, and documentation for collecting the data. She uses interactive model in analyzing the data. The results of her research show that: (1) There are 29 learning strategies used by three students as the subjects of the research in developing writing skill. The total number of strategies applied by Subject 1 is seventeen (17) strategies. 7 in Metacognitive Strategy, 8 in Cognitive Strategy and 2 in Social / Affective Strategy. Total strategies that are applied by Subject 2 is seven (7) strategies. 3 in Metacognitive Strategy, 2 in Cognitive Strategy, and 2 in Social / Affective Strategy. And total strategies that are applied by Subject 3 is five (5) strategies. 2 in Metacognitive Strategy, 2 in Cognitive Strategy and 1 in Social / Affective Strategy. Subject 1 applies many strategies that aren’t applied by Subject 2 and Subject 3. The implementation of thus learning strategies ran well. By using the learning strategies, the students could improve their interest to study in writing and it could stimulate the students to comprehend better. (2) The final test result of three student’s English writing is good. In the action, the students give different response in applying learning strategies to develop writing skill. Most of the mistakes are on the grammar.
