Abstract

This research aims at knowing the implementation of teaching speaking at the first year of Junior High School Al-Firdaus Surakarta. The data are taken fom all elements of teaching-learning process committed by the teacher, students and other sources, such as, book, lesson plan, etc. The method of collecting data is descriptive qualitative method by employing interview, observation and documentation. The result showed that the techniques used in English speaking teaching-learning process are games and role-play. The problems faced by the teacher the teacher are a) the students can not be handled. Usually they often make a joke with their friends in the class when the teacher explain the materials, b) the students feel shy to speak English, because are afraid if their friends laugh at them, c) the student’s vocabulary are limited, because they rarely speak English, d) the students are not good in pronunciation, because they rarely speak English and English not their main language. The writer concludes that English speaking teaching-learning process in Al-Firdaus Surakarta has role in improving the speaking achievement and the students enjoy the lesson.
