Abstract

This study aims to increase the student’s speaking capability, specifically to describe the process of teaching speaking using Jigsaw games at MTs Muhammadiyah 03 Masaran Sragen, to see whether Jigsaw Games increases the student’s speaking capability. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done in MTs Muhammadiyah 03 Masaran Sragen. The writer took the students of the second year of Junior High School student at MTs Muhammadiyah 03 Masaran Sragen in 2007/2008 academic year as subject of the study. To collect the data, the writer did observation, interview and test. The action was conducted in four cycles, each cycle consists of four elements, namely planning, acting/ implementing, and eflecting. After collecting data and analyzing them, the writer finds that the way of increasing the second year students’ speaking skill using jigsaw games are the groups with five students are set up. Each group member is assigned some unique material to learn and then to teach their group members. To help the students learn in the classroom, the writer exchange the member of group. In the sub-section the students are expected to decide what the important things of the lesson is. After practicing in these “expert” groups the original group’s reform and students teach each other; it is found that (1) there are 29 students (63.04%) who increase speaking skill; (2) there are 7 students (15,22) who decrease their speaking skill; (3) there are 10 students (21.73%) who are static on their speaking skill. The students feel happy and can be more active, creative and enjoy studying English and they more easily speak. The conclusion is jigsaw games can increase the student’s speaking skill at MTs Muhammadiyah 03 Masaran Sragen
