Abstract

The study here aims at identifying the linguistics forms of the request in Knight and Day movie manuscript and describing the kinds of the request in the Knight and Day movie manuscript. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the writer uses documentation method by selecting the request which can be found in movie manuscript taken from Knight and Day. The steps for getting the data are watching the movie, finding the script of the movie, reading the movie manuscripts and identifying, selecting, and making the request dialog between speakers in the manuscript of movie. The collected data are analyzed by using Marcella Frank form of request theory and Tsui’s classification of request theory. The results of the research show that first, the linguistics form of request sentence in Knight and Day movie consists of three types of sentence namely: declarative sentence has 3 data (4, 84%), imperative sentence has 41 data (66, 13%) and interrogative sentence has 18 data (29, 03%). Second, there are four kinds of request expression employed in the movie, namely: request for action has 40 data (64, 52%), request for permission has 18 data (29, 03%), request for offer has 2 data (3, 23%), and request for proposal has 2 data (3, 23%).
