Abstract

This research is aimed at knowing and describing the procedures in teaching narrative paragraph by using cartoon strips. This Classroom Action Research was carried out at SMP N 1 Pagentan especially the second year that consists of 36 students. In collecting the data, the writer did observation, interview and gave the test. There were two cycles in this action research. The results of pre-test and post-test were used to know the score of the writing skill. The mean score of pre-test is 55,70 that belongs to low score, while the mean score of the students writing skill is 74, 20. By using cartoon strips the students are able to express their idea to write narrative paragraph. It can be evaluated that cartoon strips in teaching narrative paragraph are able to build motivation. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the result of the students' achievement showed that teaching narrative paragraph by using cartoon strips could improve the achievement. The students' score was getting better in each cycle. It indicates that the teaching learning process was successful.
