Abstract
The major problem of this study is how struggle for life is reflected in Far and Away movie based on individual psychological approach. This study is to analyze structural elements of Far and Away movie and struggle for life on the major character Joseph Donnelly who live in proletariat class in the late of nineteenth century based on individual psychological approach point of view. This research paper is qualitative research. The object of the study is Far and Away movie directed by Ron Howard published by Columbia Pictures in 2006. The primary data source is Far and Away movie and the secondary data source are virtual references such as internet data, website related to the analysis. The method of data collection is library research. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The result of the study is to show the relationship between the movie and the social phenomena both upper and proletariat class in Europe and America around the late of nineteenth century. In Far and Away movie, Ron Howard describes the proletariat especially the tenant farmers after generation of oppression of poverty have begun to rebel against to unfair rent and cruel evictions imposed upon them by their wealthy landlord. Furthermore, Ron Howard illustrates that the proletariat become the oppressive and dominated class. Therefore, their lives are suffered under capitalist system in all aspects in life. In this condition, the individua l spirit of proletariat class is emerged to lose from oppressive and dominated condition. They want to change their poverty to reach the freedom of life and prosperity especially to get their own property such land.
