Abstract

The research aims at knowing the improvement of the vocabulary mastery in teaching vocabulary using audiovisual media and the comments of students about teaching vocabulary using audiovisual media. This research was conducted from 20 November to 11 December 2007 at SDN Kauman 2 Widodaren Ngawi. The research was conducted at the sixth year. The data take from the result of the pre-test and post-test of the students. The sources of the data were the event and the documents. She uses observation, test and interview as the method of collecting the data. After collecting the data and analyzing them, the writer described the result of the research. She analyzed the data by comparing the result of pre-test and post-test. The results pre-test and post-test were used to know the score of the vocabulary mastery. The mean of the students’ mean score before the teacher did the action was 64. The mean of the students’ mean score after the teacher did the action was 79, 80. In the research, the writer found that there were three kinds of the result. First, the students that have increasing score were 82, 5 %. Second, the students that have static score were 7, 5 %. Third, the students that have decreasing score were 10 %. Based on the interview to the students, teaching vocabulary using audiovisual media get positive comments from students. They are not bored, but more enthusiastic to follow the teaching-learning process. The students look braver and more confident. They also became full of concentration in the classroom during the teaching-learning process. Based on the research finding, it can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using audiovisual media could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The students’ score is getting better in each cycle. It indicates that the teaching-learning process is successful.
