Abstract

This study is aimed at describing the interaction between teacher and students in the English teaching using Competency-based Curriculum to the first year students of SMPN 7 Wonogiri in order to increase the students’ motivation and the students’ ability in learning process using Competency-based Curriculum. The writer uses descriptive qualitative research. The data used in this research are derived from event, informant, and document analysis. The data are quoted from the observation and interview with the teacher and students. Based on the observation and interview, the writer draws some conclusions about the using Competency-based Curriculum in English teaching to the first year students of SMPN 7 Wonogiri as follows: (1) The interaction between teacher and students in the English teaching using Competency-based Curriculum, includes: (a) The objective of teaching English is to guide the students to be able to express their ideas and to master their subject well, (b) The syllabus is a process by which content is decided for a course construction in Language Teaching, (c) The classroom activities such as teacher has several roles in teaching using Competency-based Curriculum to the first year students of SMPN 7 Wonogiri, such as a classroom manager, organizer, facilitator, observer, and also as an evaluator, (d) The roles of the students and teacher have three main roles, such as a subject of learning, communicator, and as a manager, (e) The material has a very important role in the teaching learning process. It must be able to develop the students’ competence and knowledge, (f) Classroom procedure of teaching English is students’ motivation comes from outside and from inside, (g) Type and procedure of evaluation that phase of language program development that monitors the teaching learning process, determines which phases of the system need adjustment. (2) The ability of the students is different. There are some students who have low ability in the class, but there are some students who are better at learning language than others.
