Abstract

This research paper is intended to describe of the implementation of Contextual Teaching Learning in teaching English to the Elementary School Students. In this research, the writer used the qualitative research for analyzing the data. To collect the data the writer uses observation, interview, and document. The data were analyzed by these steps: (1) finding out the teaching procedures used by the teacher in teaching English using CTL method, (2) comparing the result of interview with the situation in the class, (3) making note about the activities in classroom, (4) judging weather the procedures used by the teacher are appropriate or not with the seven components in CTL, (5) Making conclusion based on the result of analysis and giving some suggestions. The result of the analysis shows that (1) there are three elements in teaching learning process: engage, study, and activate, (2) there are three teaching procedures sequence in teaching learning process: Straight Arrows sequence, Boomerang sequence, and Patchwork sequence, (3) there are seven components used by the teacher in teaching learning process: constructivism, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflections, and authentic assessment, (4) the teaching procedures used by the teacher are appropriate with components of CTL in giving material to the students, (5) there are four strengths of CTL: the students become more active and more conscious in teaching learning process, the students become enthusiastic in answering questions and asking about the materials, the teaching learning process becomes enjoyable and there is a cooperation among students, and (6) there is a weakness of CTL: it is difficult for the teacher in giving score to the students.
