Abstract

Aluminium 6061 is widely used in the construction industry due to its lightweight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. Multilayer welding on aluminium requires precise parameter control to produce high-quality joints. This study aims to analyze the effect of 70, 80, and 90 Ampere welding currents on the tensile strength, hardness, and microstructure of 10 mm thick Aluminium 6061 with multilayer welding. The welding process used Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) with 7 layers and a V-Groove joint. Tests included tensile strength, Vickers microhardness, and microstructural observations using SEM-EDS. The results showed that 80 and 90 Ampere produced fractures in the base metal area, indicating good joint quality. The highest hardness value of 71.93 HV was found in the weld zone. SEM-EDS observations revealed cracks caused by inadequate cleaning between layers. In conclusion, 80-90 Ampere welding currents are recommended to obtain strong joints, with attention to cleaning between layers.
