Abstract

Indonesia faces the challenge of dealing with a growing elderly population that continues to increase significantly. Klaten Regency is part of the Central Java region which has a significant elderly population. In 2023 the number of elderly people in Klaten amounted to 202,591 people with a percentage of 15.77%. As they age, the elderly experience a decrease in cognitive function and memory which can lead to dementia. The aging process can cause degeneration or damage to the elderly brain, resulting in a decrease in cognitive, intellectual, social, and occupational functions. This decline can affect daily activities. The availability of adequate facilities and services to care for and support the elderly with dementia in Klaten is still very limited. The design of the Residential Dementia Care Center uses a humanist architectural approach that was chosen as the design paradigm underlying the entire design process. By emphasizing the importance of understanding the space needs, experiences, and aspirations of space users, as well as creating a responsive, inclusive, and empowering environment.
